A fruit cold storage and kitchen store godown in Gangavati suffered extensive damage after an accidental fire broke out early morning on Wednesday, April 5. The incident occurred at Bunnigidada camp in the city and resulted in a loss of several crores of rupees.
The godown was home to several businesses, including the Fruit Cold Storage, and Electronic Shops, all of which were owned by Akbar Saba and Ramesh Marwadi.
According to reports, the fire started in the godown and quickly spread, burning down the banana stocks, plastic trays, AC vehicles, some important documents, and four cylinders in the fruit godown. Meanwhile, the kitchen and electronic equipment in the other shops were also destroyed.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and struggled for more than three hours to control the flames. Eventually, they managed to put out the fire, but not before significant damage had been done.
It remains unclear whether the fire was caused by a cylinder explosion or an electrical short circuit. However, officials from Jescom and the Municipal Council have visited and inspected the site to determine the cause of the fire.
