Belagavi: In a freak mishap, a Ganapati idol that was being moved to a pandal in the city caught fire after coming in contact with an overhead electric cable on Sunday, September 1.
As per reports the plastic cover used to wrap the idol, while in transit caught fire. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, locals complained that the organisers should have taken adequate precautions to prevent untoward incidents.
A HESCOM official said that organisers must provide prior information to them while moving such tall idols. This way they can ensure power cuts along the route to avoid such mishaps.
