Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited has issued a legal notice to the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) stating that it will stop garbage collection services from August 1. The company has urged the MCC to make alternative arrangements for waste disposal.
In the notice, Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited alleged that the MCC has withheld their payment to the tune of Rs 68.85 crore. The notice mentions that MCC should clear the pending dues within seven days of receiving the notice and also pay an 18% interest on the delayed payment. Additionally, the notice calls for the MCC to organize an alternative garbage collection system.
The legal notice also states that the pending payment has been withheld in an attempt to coerce the waste management company into accepting unfavorable terms set by the MCC. Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited claimed that there have been deductions towards fines from the pending dues thus posing financial difficulties to them.
Although the contract between Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited and the MCC is set to expire at the end of July 2023, the same has been extended for another six months until the completion of the tender process. The MCC’s general body meeting, held on Wednesday, approved this extension.
