Gas leak detected on goods train at Subrahmanya; Loco pilot’s presence of mind averts tragedy

Subrahmanya: A major tragedy was averted in the wee hours of Saturday by the presence of mind of a loco pilot who noticed a gas leak in a stationary goods wagon at Subrahmanya Road railway station in Nettana.
Fire brigades from Sullia, Belthangady, Mangaluru, Puttur, were called in as a precaution while the work for stoping the leak from a tank continued.
The good train had stopped at the station at around 2.30 am on Saturday for a crossing. It was carrying 43 goods panels filled with gas from Mangaluru towards a destination Maharastra. The loco pilot who went on an inspection noticed the gas leak from the fourth good panel. He immediately alerted the authorities.
An operation was launched overnight to arrest the leak and prevent any mishap.
