Geethartha Chinthane 13: Bhagavad Gita’s Message in One Sentence

Team Udayavani, Aug 22, 2024, 8:25 AM IST

What is the essence of the Bhagavad Gita? What is Dharma? Explain in one sentence—this is the question. The answer is: “Svavihita vrityabhaktya bhagavadaradhanameva paramodharmah”“Performing our duties with devotion, considering them as worship of the Lord, is the highest Dharma.”

Srimadacharya has insightfully referenced this verse in the Gita Bhashya in a way that even those unfamiliar with Sanskrit can grasp its meaning. This is the same message that Lord Krishna imparted to Arjuna on the battlefield, and it is also the message that God has given to all of us, applicable to all aspects of modern life. It is sufficient to carry out the tasks assigned to us with dedication, as if they are acts of love towards God. However, we often fail to do this. Instead of focusing on our duties, we tend to be distracted by other thoughts.

Who created this world? The Lord. He established a law for the world to follow. It is enough to abide by the law given by God. Just as we must heed the instructions of the head of a household, so too must we understand that the rule of the world is governed by the will of the Lord. We should accept that this world is under divine control.
