Geethartha Chinthane 147: World cannot function on direct perception alone

Team Udayavani, Jan 6, 2025, 10:03 AM IST

For those who deny the concept of virtue, the remaining 99% oppose their perspective. They question why one should accept the existence of sin. In such a scenario, it appears as though the 1% accusing the majority of dishonesty are alone in their stance. Doesn’t the majority rule in such cases? This is how the majority works in Kaliyuga.

If the worldly norms dictate acceptance of virtue and sin, the lone dissenter becomes the odd one out. This is akin to a scenario where everyone wears clothes except one person, who appears mad. Similarly, if everyone is unclothed except for one, that lone person is deemed mad.

Those who claim, “I reject scriptures, I reject doubt, I reject all faiths, and I am beyond religion,” rely solely on direct perception. But can everything be proven through direct perception alone? It is impractical to validate every moment and action through perception. If so, one would struggle to accept even basic tools like calendars, clocks, or vehicles, as these also cannot be validated purely by perception.

One must accept these based on prior understanding or belief in their functionality. Without this, the world’s transactions would come to a standstill. Even words and sentences would lose coherence, leading to a breakdown in communication. Thus, perception alone is impractical. Eventually, one must accept scriptures, logic, or doubts as guiding principles.  This leads to an endless debate.
