Geethartha Chinthane 15: Bhagavadichhe is the Source of Dharma

To resolve the curiosity about Dharma, the existence of an independent God must be accepted. Without this acceptance, further discussions become irrelevant. God is the source of discussions on Dharma and Adharma. If we do not acknowledge God, the order of the world would fall into chaos. Duryodhana could have been killed on various occasions, such as during Draupadi’s disrobing or when he tried to bind Krishna. However, it was God’s will to end all the evildoers through the war, akin to clearing all the garbage at once.
It was by God’s will that Bhishma stood up for the Kauravas and fought in the war; otherwise, Duryodhana might not have come to the battlefield. This should not be interpreted as war always being justified. The central theme of Dharma is that everyone should act according to the will of the master of the world. For instance, intelligence officials perform their duties in other countries on behalf of their nation because the head of the country desires it. That is the official’s Dharma.
It is a mistake to make decisions about Dharma without considering God. How can we know God’s will? The Dharmashastras teach that the way to understand this is through constant observation (meditation) on what the Lord’s will is.
