Geethartha Chinthane 17: Medium of Love in the Gita
Team Udayavani, Aug 26, 2024, 3:23 PM IST
While preaching the Gita to Arjuna, Lord Krishna said that he would tell the truth because Arjuna was beloved to him (‘Priosi‘). Where there is love, there is truth. Experience shows that whether it is with animals or humans, when there is love, the work becomes more effective. Lord Krishna imparted such subtle wisdom in the Gita. This is why it is advised to teach and guide those who are dear to us. Even when instructing children, it should be done through the medium of love.
We fear tigers and lions, but circus trainers play with them because there is a bond of love between them. Similarly, a snake bites with the feeling of enmity. When enmity disappears, love takes its place. However, love should not be an act or pretense. If enmity arises, even the truth will not be believed. Srimadacharya has illuminated this concept by saying ‘atmanah priyatamam‘ (the dearest to the self).
The suppression of Adharma (unrighteousness) is a special duty for Kshatriyas and optional for others. Since Adharmis (those who act against Dharma) are harmful to everyone in the world, it is emphasized that those with self-imposed duties must restrain Adharmis, while others should play a complementary role. On the auspicious day of Srikrishnajanmashtami, let us resolve to fulfill this purpose of Srikrishnaavatara.
