Geethartha Chinthane 27: Pandavas Follow Dharma, Duryodhana Clings to ‘Dhara Mama’

After listening to the Gita, Arjuna declares, “Nashto Moha, Smritilabdha“. Although Krishna had imparted several teachings before, Arjuna finally acknowledges, “My delusion (Moha) is destroyed, and clarity (Smriti) has returned.” Until that moment, Arjuna believed he had a stake in the affairs of the world. But when Krishna said, “I will guide you, and you should act accordingly,” Arjuna realized that he bore no sin for following the divine command.

When the rightful owner directs a task, what problem can there be for the one who executes it? Therefore, if everyone accepts divine guidance, there should be no problems.

On the other hand, Duryodhana declared “Mama Dhara” (Dhara Mama = The earth is mine). While the Pandavas and Lord Krishna upheld Dharma, Duryodhana clung to “Dhara Mama.” The moment one says “this is mine,” problems arise; conversely, when one recognizes “this is not mine,” problems find their resolution.

In the Satya Yuga, there was neither a king nor an army; the prevailing sentiment was that “everything belongs to God.” Gradually, this understanding was lost. When Dharma is destroyed, the sense of “mine” emerges, leading to all conflicts. Conflicts begin when one insists, “This is mine.”
