Geethartha Chinthane 32: It’s great blessing to be born as human

Many people think that the real wealth lies in the opportunities others receive, rather than appreciating what they have. Feminists often say, “all the meritorious opportunities are given to men.” However, the ancient theologians were farsighted enough to create laws ensuring that women could earn as much merit as men, without necessarily performing the same duties. Unfortunately, few read these laws, and even if they do, they may not value them.

If one is content with what they have, there is no reason for sorrow. Some people, however, end their lives, feeling that they have received nothing. This is a grave mistake. Simply being born as a human is a great blessing. God has provided everyone with opportunities to work and achieve. No other creature is as privileged. So, if one sits in despair and takes their own life because they feel unlucky, what can be said? One should look at those facing difficulties, or visit the sick in hospitals, to realize how fortunate they truly are.

The opportunity one receives is their Swadharma. If you ask those who have found peace after reading the Bhagavad Gita, many will say that it was the understanding of Swadharma that brought them peace. Thus, the thought of Swadharma has provided solace to many.
