Geethartha Chinthane 97: Replacing delusion with sense of duty

The principle emphasized here is to avoid letting a sense of duty turn into attachment (Moha). Actions performed with a sense of duty lack attachment, while actions performed with delusion become obstacles to self-development. Tasks can be undertaken either with delusion or with a sense of duty. Those who are self-aware must choose what aids their spiritual growth. Acting out of delusion results in satvik or tamasic sorrow.

“When performing any task, one must realize that God has granted the opportunity to serve the world. This should be done with a sense of duty, as shirking from duty is not an option,” the message explains. By letting go of thoughts like “I” and “mine,” detachment is achieved. In that space, a sense of duty must immediately take root. This process is akin to maintaining balance while riding a bicycle—it requires practice.

In reality, we control nothing. Can everything we plan unfold as we desire? Developing an awareness that we are dependent on divine will is essential. God is like rain. After the rain, a mango tree bears mangoes, a jackfruit tree bears jackfruits, and so on. Rain falls equally on all trees, but the fruits differ according to each tree’s nature and capability. Similarly, rewards are determined by one’s aptitude and efforts.
