Shivamogga: Farmers use scarecrows to scare away animals who destroy their crops, right? But, it seems this farmer had a better idea.
Srikant Gowda in Karnataka, who has been struggling to deal with monkey infestations on his farm, painted his dog like a tiger. After his idea worked, all the other farmers followed suit.
They painted their dogs orange with black stripes, as the monkey menace in the Malnad region in Shivamogga, has become a major problem for the farmers, according to Deccan Herald.
Gowda, who owns a dog, said that he has got this idea of painting his dog to scare away monkeys, four years ago when he visited Uttara Kannada. He found that a farmer in Bhatkal was using a fake tiger doll to scare away monkeys. He tried the same tactic and realised that it works.
However, he thought that the idea would not last too long, so he instead thought of painting his dog. The paint is made up of hair dye and lasts up to a month before fading. Not just that, he has also put posters of his dog in the farm, to scare away monkeys.
