Germany: Couple from Basrur attacked

Husband dead, wife’s condition critical

New Delhi/Kundapur/Siddapura: In a murderous attack, an immigrant stabbed a couple from Basrur near here employed at Munich and residing at Augsburg leaving the man dead and his wife critically injured. The deceased man is identified as B V Prashanth (51)from Basrur while his wife Smitha Basrur (40) from Siddapura continues to be critical.

The couple was working for the same company in Germany and the attack took place near heir residence and Mr Prashanth died on the spot. The couple had been granted German citizenship last year.

The attack

Apparently, the assailant suddenly attacked the couple as they were getting down the stairs of their residence on Friday. the doctors of the hospital where the lady is being treated expect her to recover in three weeks, informed Srinivas, a relative of Prashanth.

An engineering student, Prashanth was employed at Munich since many years. The couple has two children, Sakshi (15) and Shlok (10).

The sudden incident has come as a shock to the family members who are currently consulting various sources on how to go ahead with the case now. It is learnt that t they are awaiting advice from the Indian embassy regarding the laws and regulations prevalent in Germany. Smitha’s parents and Prashanth’s mother will go to Germany to do the needful, once they get clear guidelines from the embassy.

The attacker

It is learnt that the attacker was of Guinea origin and was staying in the residential complex where the couple resided. Apparently, the accused had and altercation with the couple at around 7 pm on Friday which escalated and suddenly the assailant attacked the couple with a knife. The police were called in soon by the neighbours who saw the horrifying scene of the profusely bleeding couple having collapsed on the floor.

On the arrival of the police, the attacker did not resist arrest while Prashanth lost his life on the spot after having suffered injuries to various body parts including his head.
