Punjalkatte: A giant rock collapsed near the historically famous Mahatobhara Sri Karinjeshwara Temple at Bantwal taluk on Tuesday, May 17.
It is said that the giant rock collapsed in the morning at 9 am. Several trees slumped and fell on the road disrupting traffic for several hours.
Forest department officials and residents removed the tree trunks from the road and cleared the traffic.
The stone quarrying activities that were taking place near the temple is said to be the reason for the collapse of the giant rock. The three stone quarries were functioning near the temple and after a severe protest, the activities were stopped recently.
