Kundapura: Commonwealth Games medallist weightlifter Gururaja Poojary of Kundapur appealed to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to incentivize sportspersons on par with those of other states.
As compared to other states, the incentives given by the Karnataka government to Commonwealth Games medal winners are very less. Increasing the cash incentives to athletes and sportspersons will motivate and help them to achieve more, Poojary said.
He also petitioned the government for a suitable job opportunity in the state government. ” Currently I am a Junior Warrant Officer of the Indian Air Force in Chandigarh. If I am given a job in the state, it will aid in my training for the upcoming Asian Games and Olympics,” he said.
