Gobi Manchurian to be banned in Karnataka?

Bengaluru: The beloved dish of many, Gobi Manchurian, could be banned in the state allegedly due to alarming findings of hazardous chemicals discovered within its ingredients. Unsafe substances, namely Sunset Yellow and Tartrazine, were reportedly detected in over a hundred variants of Gobi Manchurian subjected to laboratory testing.

In response to these revelations, the state government is likely to prohibit the sale and consumption of Gobi Manchurian deemed unsafe for public health, sources said. This comes on the heels of a recent ban on cotton candy by Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka Health Department directed the collection of samples from all districts for testing. Over a hundred samples were reportedly found to contain hazardous chemicals. Consequently, the use of these chemicals and artificial colouring in Gobi Manchurian dishes could be banned.

Amid these reports, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, told reporters in Sullia on Sunday that no decision has been reached about banning the dish. The lab reports’ findings will be thoroughly reviewed. Any official announcement regarding the Gobi Manchurian issue is expected on Monday, he said.
