Gold and e-cigarette pods seized from passengers at Mangaluru Airport

Mangaluru: Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport intercepted two passengers on suspicion and uncovered smuggling activities on December 1 and 2, 2024.
The passengers, both residents of Kasaragod, Kerala, had arrived from Dubai on Air India Express flights IX832 and IX814.
During the search, officers recovered three oval-shaped objects concealed in one passenger’s body. Upon extraction, 24-carat gold weighing 625 grams and valued at Rs 48.75 lakh was retrieved.
Additionally, the customs team discovered 147 nicotine liquid refills for e-cigarettes concealed inside a carton box in their checked-in baggage. The pods, valued at Rs 1.41 lakh, were also seized.
Further investigation into the smuggling case is underway.
