Mangaluru: Gold jewellery worth Rs 3.91 lakhs was stolen from the bag of passengers in the AC coach of Bengaluru-Mangaluru train.
On April 7, a 74-year-old woman from Jeppu, along with her daughter and 2 grandchildren, boarded the Mangaluru Bound train on April 7. When they reached their destination on the next morning, they discovered the theft of 59.885 grams of gold jewellery (2 bangles and a chain) in their vanity bag.
Act of a fellow passenger?
The elderly woman was awake at 11.30 pm, while her family was fast asleep. After the train left Mysuru station, a man sat next to their seat. TTE had reportedly checked his ticket. It is alleged that he may have been involved in the crime.
According to the police complaint, the man was acting suspiciously by probing the bags of her grandchildren. When he was asked about his journey, he told the woman that he would be getting off at Subrahmanya. The elderly woman later fell asleep.
