Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport successfully intercepted an illegal attempt to smuggle gold into the country. The passenger, arriving from Dubai, was found carrying Rs 25,49,400 worth of gold concealed in a creative manner.
On November 5, during a routine check of the passenger’s trolley bag, officials discovered 420 grams of 24-carat pure gold. The gold was cleverly hidden inside a silver-colored packet within chocolate wrappers labeled “Tiffany Eclair.” Seven such chocolate packets were found in the possession of the passenger, who was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation.
The customs officials, vigilant in their efforts to curb illegal activities, have confiscated the smuggled gold, and the case is under ongoing scrutiny.
