Gold smuggling bid foiled; arrested

Bajpe: The customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) have arrested a passenger who attempted to smuggle gold from Dubai into the country. The officials also seized 91.050 gm of gold from the accused worth Rs 2,96,823.
The gold was being smuggled by the passenger who arrived aboard Air India Express flight on Thursday. The 24 carat gold was hidden within 4 lux soaps in the form of paste. The crime surfaced when the officials grew suspicious of the passenger’s behaviour and subjected his luggage to a through checking.
