Mangaluru: Airport officials seized gold worth 21.53 lakhs from a passenger who tried to smuggle gold at Mangaluru International Airport.
Acting on a tip off, the officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Regional Unit detained Umar Farook Kannadaguli(28) of Mannila in Bantwal who arrived by Spicejet Flight No. SG-60 from Dubai to Mangalore.
The officials found gold bars concealed in a multimedia speaker system.
The gold bars weighed 699 grams.
The contraband gold was later seized by the officers of DRI under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
Umar Farook Kannadaguli was arrested for attempting to smuggle gold bars into the country.
