Gold worth over Rs 9 lakh seized at Mangalore airport

Mangaluru: Customs official at Adani Mangalore International airport on Friday, April 23 seized 196 grams of gold valued at Rs 9.6 lakh from a male passenger who arrived from Dubai.
The passenger named Abdul Raheem Eriyal Jafar, hailing from Kasargod arrived from Dubai in Air India flight IX 384.
The Customs team led by Praveen Kandi, IRS Deputy Commissioner consisting of Nagesh Kumar, Superintendent; Naveen Kumar, Superintendent and other officers profiled the passenger and seized the gold.
Jafar had concealed the mercury coated gold strips in Kitchenware, Gas lighters, MP3 Player and Earphone carried in checked-in baggage, the customs said.
