Good rain in Karavali, inner regions

Damage incurred at some places

Mangaluru/Udupi/Kasaragod: Good rain coupled with strong winds was experienced at various locations in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasaragod districts on Thursday.

Mild rain, accompanied by lightning and thunder was reported from several locations in Kasaragod district. Strong winds blew off the sheets installed as roof for merchant stalls at Sri Mahalingeshwara temple festival here.

Hailstone rain

Along with wind and thunder, hailstone rain was witnessed in the rural areas of Puttur taluk including Kowdiccharu, Badagannur, Eshwaramangala and Sullia Padavu. Traffic movement was affected after a huge tree fell across the national highway near Mittur. Power supply was affected after several power poles were uprooted due to rain and wind in Vittal.

A house belonging to Sundara Naika of Kodippadiya Batrapady suffered damage due to a lightning strike. A dog in front of the house died on the spot due to the lightning strike. A woman and two children within the house remained unharmed.

Good rain was recorded in Bellare area as well as in Venoor, Uppinangady, Bellare, Ujire, Naravi, Dharmasthala, Belthangady, Guruvayanakere, Kadaba, Sullia, Bantwal and Punjalkatte.

Rain and wind in Uppinangady

Several trees were uprooted at various locations and power cut ensued due to the strong winds that blew in Uppinangady and its surroundings.

The strong winds at Kote and 34th Nekkilady area in Uppinangady broke areca nut trees which brought down electricity cables and damaged the poles.

Many houses were damaged after uprooted trees fell on them in Biliyur area. There is information that the inhabitants of some houses sustained minor injuries.

Udupi district: Rain at different locations

Good rain was received at different locations in Udupi district. Rain along with lightening was seen at Karkala, Hebri and Siddapura areas. Udupi encountered drizzling. Trees have fall on to walls due to the rain and winds in Karkala. Rain was witnessed at Kollur, Eduru, Halkal, Jadkal and Vandse areas.

Mudipu: School damaged

Strong winds were experienced in the evening in Ullal and Mudipu area and the roof tiles of the government primary school at Huhakuvakallu near Mudipu and of some houses here were blown off.

Possible rain for two more days

Due to the winds blowing from the Arabian Sea, there is a possibility for more rain, wind and lightning to occur for the next two days, informs the Weather Department.
