Goonda act to be invoked if one returns back to crime

Mangaluru: Strict action will be taken against criminals who revert back to criminal activities and violate the law by by invoking Goonda act or COCA, warned Mangaluru Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha addressing police personnel on the occasion of the Service Parade at the City Armed Reseve Grounds in the city on Friday.

New offer is being given to rowdy sheeters with the aim to change their mindset and make them live a docile life and already many rowdies have responded and coming forward. If any rowdy sheeter chooses to ignore this and carryon with criminal activities will face strict action, he assured.

“Asha Kirana” unit started

‘Asha Kirana’ unit have been started to hold talks with rowdies and bring them to the correct way. Several rowdies within the commissionerate limits have contacted us. Counselling will be provided to them. In order to rehabilitate them, they will be provided with job training at the end of the month. The aim is to exterminate drugs and already a few cases have been booked. Campus Connect programme will be conducted to wean off helpless youths from drug abuse. It will be inaugurated soon, he informed.

For the welfare of the police, email IDs have been provided to improve administration work. They can inform any problem through email. The steps will be taken to solve the problem within 3 days. Action has been taken to shift the police personnel residing at the dilapidated police quarters at Shaktinagar to new quarters, he informed

He advised outstation policemen giving their service here to attempt to learn tulu language, culture and the lifestyle here.

Proper training facility will be provided to the children of police personnel for higher education or to get employment, he informed.

30,000 citizens become members of the beat

Within a month, 30,000 citizens have joined ‘My Beat My Pride’ initiative aimed to make the police system more people friendly. Altogether 750 beat groups are there and in the coming days the number is expected to rise to 2.5lakh. beat representatives are bringing in various problems. Based on the information provided by them, a few problems have already been resolved. Some have assisted in the locating of absconding accused. We need support from the citizens to work people oriented, requested the officer.

During the program, a march past was conducted under the leadership of City Armed Reserve Police ACP M A Upase. DCPs Arunanshugiri and Laxmi Ganesh were present. The programme was cast live on facebook and Twitter.
