Belagavi: Governor Vajubhai Vala advocated the need for constructing small check dams across rivers, instead of the big ones to solve the water crisis being faced by farmers in the country.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Study Chair at Rani Chennamma University in Belagavi on Thursday. This is the first study chair in the name of the RSS ideologue in South India.
In his address, Vala said that the Union and State governments should follow the ideals preached by Deen Dayal Upadhyaya and hoped that the RSS thinker’s idea of a national water grid to save river water from going waste into the sea is implemented by the Union government.
“Despite the state having big dams – Krishna, the Tungabhadra and the Cauvery – the problem of water crisis remains unsolved,” he said adding that is was necessary to build small check dams and ensure availabilty of water for farmers throughout the year
