Govt cannot take over Mutts: Pejawara Swamiji

Udupi: Pewaraja Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji objected the move by the state government to take control of Hindu Mutts.
The department of Religious and Charitable Endowments (Muzrai), on January 29, issued a public notification inviting opinions and suggestions from the public, priests, temple administrations and religious heads. Noting that there was a need for a comprehensive law, it had sought to know their thoughts on bringing the mutts, temples and certain religious institutions under the ambit of the Muzrai department and the degree of control the department should exercise.
“I will not initiate a fight against this. Let the people of the state decide. However if the government takes control of Krishna Math I will come out. I cannot be in the math as an employee of the government” the Swamiji said.
Taking control of Hindu Maths will prove the state government is anti-Hindu. A secular government should not discriminate. It should treat the Majority and Minority communities equally,” he said.
