Bengaluru: Facing severe backlash, the coalition government has finally conceded to demand of celebrating Hampi Utsav. However, the Utsav will be celebrated on a low budget for one day as opposed to the original three-day festivity.
Addressing presspersons here water resource minister DK Shivkumar said that owing to the drought conditions in many districts, the government had decided to cancel Hampi Utsav this year, but now Bellary MP VS Ugrappa and local artist have expressed their concerns that they would like the festival to happen. So the government has decided to celebrate Hampi Utsav on a low budget for one day.
He further added that Bellary BJP MLA Somashekara Reddy recently said that if the government had no money to celebrate Hampi Utsav they would beg and collect money from the public to celebrate Hampi Utsav, this statement of his is incorrect, because the government has never said that the celebration will be cancelled due to financial problems. The BJP would have collected money from the public but the coalition government wil not stoop to their level, he added.
Hampi Utsav is a three-day festival, which is organized by the state government. The events include cultural events, including music shows, puppet shows, dance performances by artists from the state and elsewhere, apart from other recreational activities.
