Udupi: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the State government has no intention of imposing night curfew again in view of the COVID-19 situation in the State.

Speaking to reporters after arriving here on Thursday, December 3, he said the COVID-19 technical advisory committee has suggested precautionary measures like not allowing large crowds during the new year celebrations.

He said all preventive measures are possible without imposing night curfew.

“The Allahabad High Court had stated that Love Jihad is the easiest way to proselytise. Chief Minister Yediyurappa has agreed to implement a law on the issue in the State soon after studying the court’s order,” the minister said.

“Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah had said that inter-religious marriages were performed even during Mughal times. Mostly, he is still living in the Mughal era,” Bommai added.

Reacting to the bandh called by pro-Kannada organisations on December 5 to oppose the formation of Maratha Development Authority, the Minister said it would be a violation of the Supreme Court ruling on bandhs.

The government would ensure all security arrangements on the day, he said.
