Mangaluru: No urban bodies and villages including Mulki town panchayat would be brought under the proposed Greater Mangaluru as their inclusion would give rise to more complications than achieving development, said State urban development minister, U T Khader, during his personal visit to Mulki on Sunday June 17th.

The minister observed that including places like Mulki under Greater Mangaluru willl give rise to problems such as facing difficulty in providing basic amenities. Instead, bringing several villages around Mulki under the town panchayat could be more beneficial. More emphasis will be given to developing small urban centres.

He visited Mulki to personally review existing problems including the development of Mulky, Sasihithlu beach and Mulky multi-village drinking water scheme. The drinking water scheme implemented by MLA, Abhayachandra Jain has encountered several problems, he noted. He reminded that the then chief minister, Siddaramiaah had released a special grant of three crore rupees for Mulky bus stand and promised to make efforts to implement underground drainage project at Mulky

Khader said that the issues connected with highway, like water on the road not flowing to the drainage, difficulty in road crossing for the pedestrians and the recommendation to build skywalks and underpasses along the highway will be discussed with the union minister, Nitin Gadkari, whom he along with several people’s representatives will be meeting shortly. There is a proposal to build 15 storied buildings to mitigate the shortage of government land for housing schemes, he said.

Khader observed that Congress faced defeat because of malicious propaganda by rivals in spite of their good performance. Abhayachandra Jain had executed maximum development projects in his constituency but he was defeated because of this reason, he noted. The people have realized their mistake and will support Congress in the coming Lok Sabha and other elections, he claimed.
