Grotto demolition case: Arrested duo sent to judicial custody

Bantwal: Two persons were arrested by Vittal police in connection to the demolition of Mother Mary grotto at Kulal near Kolnadu. The arrested have been identified as Jayarama Naika and Monappa Naika.
The accused have been charged under 143, 147, 153(J), 295(J), 427and 149 sections of IPC. The case is being investigated by Vittal police.
Later, the arrested were produced in the court. The court has sent them to judicial custody till August 12th.
The incident
On Thursday night September 27th, some idols and buntings were installed after demolishing the Mother Mary grotto belonging to Vijayadka Church which stood since 1970 at Kulal near Kolnadu in Bantwal taluk.
In relation to the case, a policeman was also suspended by Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police (SP) Ravikanthe Gowda for dereliction of duty.
