  • Chaitra Kundapur’s absence infuriates the Judge

Sullia: The Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) Guruprasad Panja, who is in judicial custody for rape and assault accusation was granted conditional bail by the Sullia court on Saturday, November 3rd. The Court however postponed the hearing of the bail application of three other people related to the case to Monday November 5th.

Meanwhile, the Court has rejected the bail application of Chaitra Kundapur and her people and dated the next hearing to November 5th.

Guruprasad’s bail application inquiry was conducted on November 2nd, but the order was declared on Novewmber 3rd. Lawyer Venkappa Gowda argued in favour of the accused.

Chaitra Kundapur’s absence infuriates the Judge

Chaitra Kundapur, who is under judicial custody, failed to attend the hearing on Saturday as she is being treated for illness in a hospital in Mangaluru. Hence, the jail superintendent had submitted an application explaining the reason for not presenting Chaitra to the court. In his application, the superintendent explains that the accused is under treatment since October 26 and is not presented to the court as she did not recovered completely. However, Chaitra will be presented on the day of next hearing.

The jail superintendent’s explanation to Chaitra’s absence only infuriated the Judge who said,” The accused did not have any ailments when she was presented to the court earlier. The doctors of Sullia also had even certified to the court that there is no reason for admitting Chaitra as an inpatient. So the complete details of Chaitra’s present medical condition have to be certified in the presence of the court by the medical officer of Mangaluru on November 5. The jail superintendent also needs to be present on November 5th.” The judge also ordered to present Chaitra in front of him in a government ambulance.
