Only about 60 percent of households have registered for the state government’s ambitious “Gruha Jyothi” free electricity guarantee scheme in the first month. Others are still waiting and watching the roll-out of the scheme.

According to information provided by the Electricity Supply Companies (Escoms), there are 1.92 crore household users, with more than 90% of them (around 1.73 crore people) consuming less than 200 units of electricity per month.

Out of these, approximately 1.18 to 1.20 crore people have registered for the scheme through the Sevasindhu portal. Close to 40 percent of eligible beneficiaries have not registered themselves for the scheme.

The last day to avail of the benefits in the first month is today, i.e. Tuesday, July 25. Those who have not registered by the end of the day will have to wait for another month to avail of the benefits under the scheme.

The government has not fixed any last date for the submission of the applications under the scheme.
