Gujarat’s Ghogha-Hazira ferry service: All you need to know

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Ghogha-Hazira ‘Ropax’ ferry service in Gujarat on 8 November 2020. Ro-pax ferry service will connect Hazira in Surat to Ghogha-Bhavnagar in the state’s Saurashtra. By ‘RoPax’, it is the roll-on, roll-off passenger ferry service.
The time taken will also be reduced from 10-12 hours to three to four hours. The ferry vehicle has the capacity to carry up to 550 passengers. It can also carry vehicles. As many 30 trucks, 100 two-wheelers, and seven smaller trucks can be carried in one trip.
The ferry service will be an all-weather service that can operate all months without requiring to be dependent on weather conditions and high tide.
As reported by Indian Express, Over Rs 650 crore has been spent in building the connectivity for RoPax ferry between Ghogha and Dahej. For the second route, the terminal at Hazira has been given on lease for 11 months by Adani Hazira Port Pvt Ltd for Re 1 per month.
The central government is also gearing up to start a similar service in Kerala and Assam.
