Bengaluru: Reformed don and social worker N Muthappa Rai, on Saturday appeared before the CCB police for a notice served on him.
The founder of pro-Kannada organisation Jaya Karnataka, had been served a notice by officials from Organised Crime Wing (OCW) after a video of he and his family offering puja to guns, on the occasion of Ayudha pooja went viral on the social media. The CCB police had sought Rai’s response to the possession of the weapons.
Appearing before the Assistant Commissioner of Police (OCW) V Mariyappa, Rai explained that the guns so displayed belonged to the security personnel hired by him. He, however, could not offer a satisfactory response for the other weapons seen in the video, said a police source.
Pointing out that the licence for firearms was issued to the men to protect themselves and not to protect others, the police are now examining the gun license rules to see if there has been a violation of the gun license laws and depending on the same appropriate action, including cancellation of the gun license would be initiated.
