Today, on July 21, 2024, Hindus around the world celebrate Guru Purnima, one of the most revered days in Sanatan Dharma. This day is dedicated to honoring the Guru, the revered instructor who guides us through life’s journey. According to the Drik Panchang, Guru Purnima falls on the Purnima Tithi (Full Moon Day) in the month of Ashadha.

The Guru holds a vital place in our lives. They are the ones who illuminate our paths with wisdom and guide us towards righteousness. A Guru helps us navigate through the confusions of life and dispels the darkness of ignorance. Their teachings not only help us become better individuals but also instill in us the values of humanity.

In the spiritual realm, a Guru provides profound insights and enlightenment. Without their guidance, one might struggle to find clarity and purpose. The role of a Guru is so crucial that even our parents, often considered our first Gurus, play a pivotal role in our initial learning and growth.

Guru Purnima also commemorates the birth of the great sage Vyasa, one of the most celebrated figures in Hindu mythology. Vyasa, the son of sage Parashar, was a celestial child who possessed knowledge of the past, present, and future.

Recognizing that people would struggle to remain spiritually active, he divided the Vedas into four parts to make the teachings more accessible. This monumental contribution earned him the title of an eternal Guru, and thus, this day is also known as Vyas Purnima.

Vyasa’s efforts to preserve and disseminate spiritual knowledge have left an indelible mark on Sanatan Dharma, making Guru Purnima not only a day of reverence but also a celebration of his legacy.

As we celebrate Guru Purnima, let us express our gratitude to the Gurus in our lives—be they spiritual guides, teachers, or parents—who continue to light our way with their wisdom and guidance.
