Vamanjoor: This school has all the facilities. But, there are no children. Since there are no students who have joined this year, its doors getting closed it inevitable. This is Gurupur aided Hindu higher Primary school’s situation.

Previously, there have been 700-800 students studying here from class 1st to 7th. There were more than 15 teaching faculty here. In 2016, the school celebrated its 10 years celebration. Last time, there were 27 students and 11 students were in 7th standard. There were 2 teachers and one guest faculty. The students from three rented house and an Ashram run by a Masjid. 4 students were coming from Gurupur.

After the 7th std students passed out, their families vacated from the rented house. The Masjid Ashram got relocated which has now created the massive lack of students. Hence, the remaining students have been informed to join another school.

All facilities

The school has a playground, well, art room, classes, mid day meals, uniform and toilets. Experienced teachers were also there. Mahalinga Nayak was the headmaster; Martha Mary D’souza was the associate teacher. Both of them were guest faculties. They are being dogged by the fear of an alternative facility.

“The school can continue if at least 20 students join. Otherwise its closure is inevitable. Based on future developments, the department will make its decision,” said Block education officer Lokesh.

How to come up with the children’s fees?

“Of the two students studying in the school one is in the 6th std while the other is in the 7th. The problem facing us poor people is how to come up with 5000 rupees to join our children to a private school,” wonders Shahida, a student’s mother.

 Should not have been neglected

“To run a school, there should be at least 20 students. But this time, the students did not join. Therefore, we have been directed to give T.C. to students that are there in the school. The school has all the facilities but the people preferring to join their children to private schools has led to this situation. Government schools provide free education and the parents are facing a lot of problems,” obserbes the headmaster Mahalinga Nayak.
