Gururaj receives a warm welcome on his arrival at Udupi

Udupi: Weightlifter P Gururaj from Kundapur who won first medal for the Country on the first day of 21st Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast Australia received a warm welcome on his arrival to his home town today.

Gururaj was felicitated by the DC Priyanka Mary Francis, Asst director, Dr Roshan Shetty, and others.

Addressing the gathering, Gururaj said, “This is a proud moment for me to receive such a warm welcome back home. I won the first medal for my country on first day itself for which I am very happy.

“I have recieved a lot of support in my journey. I wish that more rural talents get support and win medals in the upcoming Commonwealth Games. My next aim is to participate in the Asian Games and also win a medal in 2020 Olympics,” he added.

Addressing the gathering DC Priyanka Mary Francis said “This is a very happy moment for us, this is motivating to other sports persons as well.”

His father Mahabala Poojary, trainers’ Sukesh Shetty and Rajendra Kumar were present.
