Kodagu: Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde, a highly controversial minister and a five-time BJP MP from Uttara Kannada known his inflammatory statements has yet again sparked a row on Sunday, January 27 after saying that the hands which touch Hindu girls, should be chopped off.

Addressing a function, organised by the Hindu Jagrana Vedike, at Madapura in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district Ananth Kumar Hegde said that we should keenly observe what’s happening around us. Regardless of caste and religion, a hand that touches a Hindu girl should not exist, this is how history is written.

Anant Kumar Hegde also claimed that Shah Jahan bought the Taj Mahal from King Jayasimha, who had actually constructed a Shiv temple–Tejo Mahalaya. Taj Mahal is not built by Muslims, he added.

He further added that if the Hindus keep sleeping, most of their houses will be called Masjid. In future, God Ram will be called Jahanpanah and Sita will become Bibi.

On the other hand, Karnataka Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao slammed Hegde for his controversial remarks.

“Wht are ur achievements after becoming a Union Minister or as MP? Wht are ur contributions for Karnataka’s development? All I can say for sure, it’s deplorable tht such people have become ministers & have managed to get elected as MP’s.(sic),” Gundu Rao tweeted.

An angry Hegde responded to Gundurao saying that state Congress chief’s only achievement is running behind a Muslim girl, an oblique reference to his wife Tabu Rao, a Muslim.

In the past as well, Hegde has waded into controversies after making inappropriate statements on sensitive issues. It may be recalled that the Union Minister had claimed that the handling of the Sabarimala issue by the Kerala government was the daylight rape of Hindus.
