Hangal shocker for BJP: Congress’ Srinivas Mane clinches victory

Haveri: Results of the Hangal assembly constituency that evoked great curiosity are out. Congress candidate Srinivas Mane won the seat by a margin of 7,598 votes and defeated BJP in chief minister Basavaraja Bommai’s home district.

Voters of the Hanagal constituency have given a shock to the BJP, which was anticipated to win the election. The surprise experiment of fielding Shivaraj Sajjanar has failed. Despite party bigwigs including CM Bommai, former CM B.S. Yediyurappa and other cabinet ministers campaigning, Sajjanar failed to convince the voters.

After 19 rounds of counting, Congress’s Srinivas Mane got 87,113 votes while Shivaraj Sajjanar (BJP) got only 79,515 votes. JD(S) candidate Niyaz Shaikh was humiliated as he could only muster 921 votes, losing the election deposit.

In Haveri town and Hangal, the congress workers are celebrating its victory.
