Hanur: An incident where a dead body was carried home by the deceased’s relatives on their shoulders for 8 kilometres due to the unavailability of an ambulance was reported from here.
Kullammadi (50), a resident of Haleooru village near Maley Mahadeshwarabetta in the taluk here was on her way to a relative’s house on August 5 along with another relative in a KSRTC bus when she felt the need to vomit.
She asked the bus’s conductor to stop the bus for a while but he told her to vomit standing near the bus’s door.
While doing so she lost control and fell off the bus while it was turning at a corner.
Kullammadi was immediately rushed to the Maley Mahadeshwarabetta Primary Health Centre in the same bus where she was declared brought dead.
A police complaint was filed by her relatives.
Later, when her relatives called the 108 ambulance helpline for an ambulance there was no response. The PHCs ambulance’s driver too was unavailable late in the night.
Therefore, the relatives decided to carry Kullammadi’s dead body home, 8 kilometres away and in the middle of the night, on their shoulders.
