Police probing the mixer-grinder explosion at a courier office in Hassan are suspecting that the act was carried out by a jilted lover to revenge on a woman.

Reportedly the parcel was meant to be delivered to a 40-year-old woman resident of Hassan. She however refused to accept the parcel saying that it did not belong to her.

When Shashikumar, staff at the courier office informed her that the sender’s details was not clear the woman told him that he could either return the parcel or keep it for himself.

Out of curiosity, Shashikumar opened the parcel and unknowingly set off the detonator attached to the mixer grinder when he switched it on. Shashikumar was injured in the blast and the courier office too was damaged.

The incident, which comes days after a cooker blast explosion in Mangaluru, created a tense atmosphere with police even probing the terror angle.

A DHNS report, quoting sources have stated that a 42-year-old resident of Bengaluru who was known to the woman had sent the parcel to her allegedly to take revenge. The woman and the man, both divorcees, had met each other at a wedding event which they were attending as professionals.

Later, they bumped into each other again on a matrimonial site where they had registered their profiles. The duo separated due to some issues. Sources said that the woman had insulted the man.

For some time now, the man had been sending random items to her via courier in-order to pester her. The woman would however return all the parcels.

Reportedly police have recorded the woman’s statement and even detained the accused for questioning.
