Mangaluru: A team of police personnel scanning inflammatory messages posted on social media following the December 19 unrest in Mangaluru has confirmed that over 50 youths, who had posted inflammatory messages were from outside India after verifying the IP addresses.

Cases have been booked against those who posted inflammatory messages with the intent of disturbing communal harmony and uploaded abusive posts against the police. On Monday the police arrested a youth, accused of posting a message to avenge the death of police firing victims.

Efforts are being made now to impound passports of these youths and bring them back to the country. Police are likely to invoke letter rogatory – a request from an Indian court to a foreign court for judicial assistance – to bring them back to the country.

A decision in this regard is likely to be taken soon.
