Haveri: Following the Congress ticket announcement for the Shiggaon by-election, discontent broke out among party members, leading to an incident where supporters of former MLA Syed Azampeer Qadri pelted stones at Minister Zameer Ahmed’s car. Minister Ahmed had come to the constituency to pacify Qadri, who had submitted his nomination as a rebel candidate.
The incident occurred as Minister Ahmed, accompanied by Congress candidate Yasir Khan Pathan, visited Qadri’s residence in Hulagur to resolve the dispute. Supporters of Qadri, upset over the ticket denial, pelted stones at Ahmed’s vehicle. Local Congress leaders managed to protect the Minister and escorted him away from the scene.
Following the ticket announcement for Yasir Khan Pathan, the Congress faced intensified dissent, with both Azampeer Qadri and former MP Manjunath Kunnur filing their nominations as rebel candidates. Despite Minister Ahmed’s efforts to dissuade Qadri from contesting as an independent, Qadri arrived at the Tahsildar’s office just ten minutes before the nomination deadline, filing his papers on time. Former MP Manjunath Kunnur also submitted his nomination at the last moment, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle.
