HD Devegowda of JD(S) trails, Sumalatha surges ahead in Mandya

Tumakuru: In Tumakuru Lok Sabha constituency Congress-JD(S) candidate HD Deve Gowda was trailing after the 8th round of counting.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Muddahanumegowda S P of INC won in this seat by defeating the BJP candidate by a margin of 74,041 votes which was 6.72% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 39.03% in 2014 in the seat. There were a total of 16 contestants in 2014.
Meanwhile, in Mandya Lok Sabha constituency independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh was leading against Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s son and the Congress-JD(S) candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy.
Sumalatha is leading Nikhil by 2383 votes. She took the political plunge as an independent candidate after being denied a ticket by the Congress.
In 2014, Congress candidate Ramya, who currently heads AICC social media wing, had lost to JD(S)’s C.S.Puttaraju by over 5,000 votes.
