HD Kumaraswamy to be sworn-in as Union Minister
PTI, Jun 9, 2024, 12:37 PM IST
HD Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and Janata Dal (Secular) leader, is poised to join the Union Cabinet, with the swearing-in scheduled for Sunday evening. Preparations for the event are in full swing at the residence of JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda in New Delhi.
Sources within the party have revealed that while the allocation of portfolios remains unconfirmed, the JD(S) has shown interest in the Agriculture Ministry, reflecting their recent electoral gains in the Lok Sabha elections where they secured two seats.
This inclusion of Kumaraswamy is viewed as a strategic maneuver by the BJP to cement its influence in Karnataka, especially in Vokkaliga-dominated regions, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on a record-equalling third term.
