HDK lashes out at BJP

Bengaluru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy defended his decision to ally with the Congress saying that he did it for the future of his party and to reverse the wrongdoings he did in his last term as the CM. “Today, people should not feel that I joined hands with Congress because I wanted to become the Chief Minister,” he said.
He retorted to all the allegations made by the BJP about the coalition government and lashed out at the party. He recalled the 2008 Assembly elections when, in a similar way, the BJP had come to power despite not having a clear majority. About the promise of farm loan waiver mentioned in the JD(S) manifesto, he said that Yeddyurappa himself had said that it was impossible to waive off loans without affecting the economic health of the state. He read out statement where Yeddyurappa had said that farm loan waiver could only remain an election promise.
“We will not give an opportunity for the BJP to protest. I only joked when I said the farmers in Chikkamagaluru did not vote for me and so I won’t waive loans. I will never play with the lives of farmers,” he added.
He also confidently declared that the alliance government will remain in power for the full five year term. He promised that the government will work towards fulfilling the promises made in the manifesto of both the Congress and the JD(S). He said that there would be no need for any organisation or community to take out protests on the streets and that he would ensure such a situation never arises.
