HDK meets kin of police firing victim; hands over Rs 5 lac chq

Mangaluru: Three days after violence that rocked the coastal city during the anti-CAA protests, leaving two dead in police firing former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy arrived in Mangaluru on Sunday, December 22 to meet the kin of poilce firing victims.
Soon after landing at Mangaluru International Airport, Kumaraswamy along B M Farooq and other JD(S) leaders proceeded to meet Nausheen’s family at their Kudroli residence and expressed his condolences. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lac on behalf of the part to the family.
Tweeting a video of the meeting, Kumaraswamy urged the state government to conduct an inquiry into the incident in a transparent manner.

Later he visited the aggrieved family members of Jaleel, the other victim of police firing and handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lac on behalf of the part to the family while expressing his grief over the incident.
Meanwhile, former chief minister Siddaramaiah is likely to visit the city on December 23 to meet the kin of the police firing victims.
The Congress leader had to cancel his Mangaluru visit on December 20 on getting information that the chartered aircraft he was to take was denied permission to land at the airport. City Police Commissioner Dr PS Harsha barred Siddaramaiah from entering the city till December 22 stating that his entry may lead to deterioration of the law and order situation.
Curfew orders had been clamped down in the city following the violent incidents. As peace seemed to prevail in the city, the curfew orders have been relaxed during the daytime today.
Earlier yesterday chief minister B S Yediyurappa met the family members of two persons who were killed in the firing, and also directed the district Deputy Commissioner to announce compensation to the next of kin of those deceased within the framework of law.
