Mangaluru / Udupi: Late on Friday night, heavy rain pounded Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, persisting into early Saturday morning and causing problems in many areas.
There has been good rain with thunderstorms in Mangaluru, Bantwal, Sullia, Puttur, and Belthangady during the night in Dakshina Kannada.
In Kottara, an auto-rickshaw fell into a drain, killing the driver. The deceased has been identified as Deepak Acharya (42). This happened late on the night of May 24.
Firefighters and locals in Kottara also rescued an 80-year-old sick woman from a house on Fourth Cross, where water had entered the home.
The Udupi district experienced continuous heavy rain with loud thunder and lightning, which frightened many residents. The storm caused damage in several places and resulted in power cuts throughout the night.
The continuous rain led to flooding, submerging low-lying areas and farmlands. Fortunately, the rain began to reduce by Saturday morning.
Weather forecast:
IMD has predicted that a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a cyclone, with expectations of continued rain along the coastal areas.

The Indian Meteorological Department has indicated that the cyclone’s effects may last until the end of May. During this period, winds may blow at speeds of 45 to 55 kmph.
