The incessant rains that lashed the Dakshina Kannada district for the past couple of days caused mudslides at various places.
In Bantwal, a hillock collapsed on a house in Nandavara Gumpumane in Sajipamunnuru village on Friday trapping two women – Zarina (49) and Sahafa (20) under the debris. Of the two, Safa has been rescued. Bantwal fire service, police, and taluk administration officials were at the spot.
According to the latest reports, Zarina died before rescuers could reach to her aid.
At Paduvannur, a hillside collapsed on Thursday damaging a portion of the house belonging to Raghava Gowda. The family – including women and children, miraculously escaped unhurt.
A landslip at Veerakamba blocked the Vittal-Mangaluru road leading to traffic disruption on Thursday.
