Heavy rainfall as Monsoon intensifies in coastal region

Mangaluru/Udupi: The monsoon has gained momentum in the coastal region, bringing substantial rainfall to various parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday.
According to weather department forecasts, an “Orange Alert” has been issued for June 26 and 27, followed by a “Yellow Alert” on June 28 and 29, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall during this period.
Trees Fall Due to Strong Winds
Poonjalakatte: In a related incident, strong winds caused trees to fall near Nadumogaru School in Maninalkur village of Bantwal taluk on Tuesday. This led to a temporary halt in road traffic. Fortunately, as school had already been dismissed, no one was present on the road at the time. Despite the presence of nearby electric poles, there was no damage, averting a potential hazard.
Electric Pole Falls, Causes Traffic Jam
Bantwal: Late Monday night, an electric pole fell near Krishnakodi close to Kalladka, causing a traffic jam for some time. The pole fell around 11:30 PM, and later, linemen arrived to remove it. By then, vehicles had lined up on the road.
Tree Fall Disrupts Power Supply in Udupi
Udupi: The district experienced heavy rainfall in several areas. Continuous rain was observed intermittently from late Monday night through Tuesday. In some places, trees fall due to the wind and rain, disrupting power supply.
Areas such as Kaup, Malpe, Udupi, and Manipal received substantial rainfall. The power supply, which was interrupted around Udupi and Manipal, was restored on Tuesday morning.
